It has everything to offer from a theme park in the centre of the city, to palaces, famous statues, harbour swimming baths, beautiful sea views and more cafes, restaurants and shops than you can imagine. We have made a list of the things that we thought were the best things to do in Copenhagen in hope that it will help to inspire your own trip.
The Best Things To Do In Copenhagen
Tivoli Gardens is a theme park right in the middle of Copenhagen! It is one of the oldest theme park in the world and is said to have inspired Walt Disney himself and also Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy-tales. It was founded in 1843 by George Carstensen. Tivoli Garden’s is a major tourist attraction in Copenhagen with over four million visitors a year.
Tivoli Garden’s is home to one of the oldest wooden rollercoasters in the world which dates back to 1914! It also homes Northern Europe’s longest saltwater aquarium with more than 1600 tropical fish.
Many famous people have been to Tivoli over the years including the Queen and Michael Jackson! Mariah Carey and Kanye West have also performed here.
Tivoli Gardens is 100% one of the best things to do in Copenhagen and we absolutely loved it here.
Amalienborg Palace is the home to one of the world’s oldest monarchies, the Danish royal family. The palace is actually made up of 4 different classical palatial buildings. The palaces were originally built for rich aristocrats and were not originally intended for royals. Only select parts of the palace are open to the public and there are royal guards protecting the palace.
The Little Mermaid Statue
The Little Mermaid statue is probably one of the most popular tourist attractions in the whole of Copenhagen. The bronze mermaid statue was created in honour of the fairy-tale, the Little Mermaid, created by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
Nyhavn is one of the most iconic spots in Copenhagen and is a totally Instagrammable spot. With brightly coloured cafes and restaurants lining the waterfront, it’s clear to see why you get lots of people stopping to take photos here, it’s beautiful.
Meat Packing District
The Meat Packing District is a cool place to go which is filled with street food stalls, bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes. There’s something or everybody here. It gets it’s name the meat packing district as it used to be where Copenhagen’s meat businesses were but has recently transformed into a trendy area of Copenhagen with great nightlife.
Rundertaarn (Round Tower)
The Rundetaarn (Round Tower) is an iconic landmark in Copenhagen. It is a tower which you can climb to the top of where there is an observatory platform that gives amazing panoramic views over the city of Copenhagen. It was originally built by Christian IV of Denmark as an astronomical observatory and now it is the oldest functioning observatory in all of Europe.
Skt. Peders Bageri
Sank Peders Bageri is Copenhagen’s oldest bakery and home to delicious Danish pastries such as Wienerbrød and Brunsviger. The smell in the bakery is amazing and it’s hard to choose as everything looks so delicious!
