The Saturnia Hot Springs are sulphuric waters, rising from the ground and heated by the nearby volcano, creating thermal pools. The sulphur-rich water comes from two spring sources that emerge from the ground at a temperature of 37.5°C and contains minerals such as sulphur, calcium carbonate and magnesium.

The Hot Springs are located in Saturnia which is a spa town in Tuscany, located in north-central Italy.

Are Saturnia Hot Springs Free?

The hot springs are free to use and open all year round and are accessible day and night. There is no need to make a reservation. There are several different pools to choose from, each varying in size and temperature. There is also a designated area for children, which ensures they can enjoy the hot springs safely.

Is it safe to swim in the Saturnia Hot Springs?

It is absolutely safe to swim in the Saturnia Hot Springs, that’s the whole point of visiting this natural wonder! Not only is it safe, but the thermal waters are also said to have health benefits.

The waters in the pools are quite shallow though, so realistically there is not much room for swimming, but plenty of room for chilling out and relaxing.

Yes, there is parking available close to the hot springs. If you are travelling in a motorhome or campervan like us, then there is also a campsite to stay at just down the road which you can walk to the hot springs from.

When is the best time of year to visit the Saturnia Hot Springs?

The Saturnia Hot Springs are open all year round. The spring/summertime is a great time to visit the springs as you can also enjoy the good weather, and it won’t be too cold when you get out of the springs.

During these times though, the Hot Springs can be extremely busy, so if you would prefer the springs to be quiet, it may be better to visit in the off-season, or visit very early in the morning or late at night.

What should I pack if I plan on visiting the Saturnia Hot Springs?

You will need swimwear when you visit the Hot Springs, as well as a towel and maybe a robe to wear when you get out of the pools, as the air can feel cold when you get out of the water, especially if you visit outside of summer.

If you are visiting in summer, you may also want to bring sunglasses, sun cream and a sun hat.

There is food available on site but if you don’t want to buy food, then it may be a good idea to bring some snacks and some water.

And obviously, you will need a camera, for all of the photos you will definitely want to take of this beautiful location!

TIP – We recommend taking water shoes if you have them, as the limestone pools can get a little slippery and there can also be some small pebbles and stones on the floor of the pools.
